Transfer to Granada

Are you planning to move to Granada for study or work?

In this article we provide you with a series of useful information for your transfer to Granada, a list of important things to do before and after the transfer. Are you ready? Let's go.

Before leaving

Although Spain is a nation of the European Community, you cannot leave your country without having a valid identity document in your pocket. If you are about to embark on your move to Granada, we recommend that you take a look at your identity card.

If it has expired or is about to expire, we suggest you run to your municipality of residence as soon as possible and proceed with its renewal. The times for renewing documents abroad are quite slow and the proximity of diplomatic offices is not always within reach.

Passport

Having a double document can always be very useful abroad. In case of loss or misplacement of the only document at your disposal, the second document can save you. For example, Ryanair will not let you leave without the originals, not even with the loss report or a replacement document from the Consulate.

The times for issuing the passport have shortened a lot and, depending on the cities, it takes about two weeks. To get a passport in Italy, go to the police headquarters of your city with the pre-filled forms. The documentation to be presented can be found at the following web address of the state police. www.poliziadistato.it

The online passport

The online passport can be requested at this address.

Health insurance card

Among the documents not to be forgotten at home, the health card is certainly important. This document, in fact, is valid in all countries of the European Community.

Credit cards

Watch out for credit cards! From personal experience, the credit cards of the most established companies do not always work in all branches. Sometimes you have to try more than 10 branches to find the compatible one. Ask your bank before you leave about the capabilities of your card abroad, but take this information with gloves. Our suggestion to be sure is to play with two credit cards, perhaps one of the Italian post offices.

Arrived in Granada

Once you arrive in the Andalusian city, one of the first things to do is to look for accommodation in Granada. If you haven't already worried before leaving, we suggest you stop for the first few days in a hostel or a B&B and from there you can comfortably start looking.

Census

If you intend to move to Granada for a medium-long period, we suggest that you obtain the ownership document, which is a document that recognizes the time you spent on Spanish territory. It is a fundamental document and must be requested as soon as you have a permanent residence.

Any person who intends to reside for a long period in Spain is obliged by law to "take possession" in the municipality of residence. This document will serve you for various purposes including: requesting health care, doing the Nie, requesting unemployment benefit, obtaining benefits etc.

IL NIE (Foreigner Identity Number)

IL NIE is the acronym of Número de Identidad de Extranjero, and in practice it is the identification number of foreign citizens, ie the tax code of foreigners in Spain.

This document is mandatory to move to Spanish territory for more than 3 months. You can apply for residency, to have an employment contract, to open a bank account, etc.

Alien Identification Number (NIE)

Social security

Although the Italian health card is valid in Spain, it is always better to get the Spanish one, that is the “Seguridad Social” card. The process goes hand in hand with the NIE Feel free to ask the agents of the NIE offices what to do and which forms to fill out.

Tessera telefonica o SIM

One of the key things to do upon your arrival is to buy a phone card. Although they have enabled international roaming a few months ago, it is always better to get a Spanish sim that will allow you to have credit for calling and internet.

There are various companies that provide the telephone service in Spain: Vodafone, Orange, Telefonica, Movistar. If, on the other hand, you intend not to permanently disconnect your cordon with Italy, there are companies such as Lebara or Lyca Mobile that offer you very advantageous rates to call Italy with the same minutes used in your promotion.
