Holy Week (Semana Santa) in Granada is an incredible religious event that stands out for the beauty of its traditional processions.
It was declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, equal recognition was given in Andalusia only to the Semana Santa of Malaga and Seville.
In 2019, Holy Week in Granada is celebrated from 14 to 21 April.
During Holy Week, Granada turns into an authentic stage where everything is part of the celebration: the Passion.
Traffic stops, people invade the streets and the air smells of incense and orange blossom.

Palm Sunday (April 14)
On Palm Sunday 5 brotherhoods will perform in processions through the streets of Granada.
Borriquilla
Departure of the procession: Cathedral at 16pm.
Brotherhood: Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and Our Lady of Peace fondata nel 1947.
Clothes: White tunic with the cross of San Andrés and with white cuffs and buttons. Blue cap with blue and white shield. Children dress up as Jews.
Holy Supper
Departure of the procession: Santo Domingo Church at 18pm.
Brotherhood: Nazarenes of the Sacramental Supper and Holy Mary of Victoria fondata nel 1926.
Clothes: Hood and red tunic
The wonders
Departure of the procession: Chiesa de San Pedro and San Pablo at 18:00.
Brotherhood: Nazarenes of Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Sentencia and María Santísima de las Maravillas fondata nel 1944.

Jesus Stripped
Departure of the procession: Brotherhood House of the Brotherhood at 19:00.

Brotherhood: Brotherhood of Charity of the Holy Christ of Work and Our Lady of Light founded in 1985.
Clothes: Pomegranate tunic and hood, with green drawstring and buttons.
Virgin of Sorrows
Departure of the procession: Chiesa de San Pedro and San Pablo at 18:00.
Brotherhood: Our Lady of Sorrows fondata nel 1937.
Clothes: White wool tunic and hood, without cloak, with the cross of San Andrés and three nails in the chest.
Jesus of the Rescue
Departure of the procession: Church of Santa María Magdalena at 18pm.
Brotherhood: Nuestro Padre Jesús del Rescate fondata nel 1925.
Clothes: Cardinal velvet tunic, scarlet satin hood and gold-colored band. High officials wear gold damask cloaks.

Holy Saturday (April 20)
Granada devotes every look to the Our Lady of the Alhambra. This is the only Holy Saturday procession in Granada: the solemn procession of the Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Coronada de Santa María de la Alhambra.
It is the image of the Virgen de las Angustias, patron saint of Granada, sitting at the foot of the Cross (sculpture from 1750 by Ruiz del Peral), one of the most representative processions of Holy Week in Granada.
